THE AFRICAN MONUMENT RENAISSANCE

Pierre Goudiaby Atepa - African Monument Renaissance - 2009
We can see a familly inclined but standing on a support looking like a tilted hill. The same material has been used for both of theim which make theim look brown and shiny. By going from the support, it looks like the man's legs are inlaid in the hill, what is making theim unobservable. The higher we go, the more we see that the strong man is holding his wife in the right side by the back while carrying his son on his left arm. Meanwhile, the son is pointing the sky with his left hand whereas the wife's right hand is slightly stretched down.

The monument has a height of 52 meters and the hill, 105 meters. It is all made of copper and bronze from the bottom to the top and counts 15 levels that can be visited. The family is facing the sun, which means that the country is open to the rest of the world. This monument symbolise the emancipation of the african continent and before arriving to it, 198 stairs have to be climbed.
Fun Fact : The son is pointing the direction of the Statue of Liberty.
